The New Zealand Shorthorn Association
The New Zealand Shorthorn office is situated at 75 South Street, Feilding in the Manawatu and it operates 8 - 5 pm weekdays. Members are welcome to visit the office and meet the staff of New Zealand Performance Beef Breeders who administer the Shorthorn Association along with the Hereford, Angus, Limousin, South Devon, Charolais, Maine Anjou and Romagnola Breed Societies.
The Association is regulated by the Council, currently made up of seven breeding members who are nominated from around New Zealand. The Council meets at various times throughout the year to discuss breed issues.
The New Zealand Shorthorn Association was established in 1915 to record pedigree and performance information in order to maintain the ongoing integrity of this well established breed. Promoting Shorthorn cattle to the seedstock and commercial beef industries is another prime objective of the Association. The main "shop window" for the breed is the Meat New Zealand Beef Expo where approximately 30 bulls are show cased in Palmerston North. This is an excellent
opportunity to either sell and/or purchase top New Zealand genetics.
The Shorthorn breeders are an extremely approachable group. If you have any enquires that are not covered in the pages to follow please contact your local councillor who will be more than happy to address your query.
